Weekly Reflection
Friday, April 28, 2017
Hello! So, this week I start to write a weekly reflection again. Last week, I didn't write anything for the 5th day of the week, Friday. I had a campus event(is it a campus event? Idk) called Training Kader and it was 3 days and 2 night. It was really tiring. It's like that I went to military academy (lol) but it's not bad. I love the last day. Because I can go home, yay! Eventhough I arrived at night, but it's still the happiest moment for the last 3 days. By the way, this week from wednesday until this day, I wrote something related with blood. I found that this topic is interesting. So I read and made the posts based on what I read. Okay, I think it's already long enough to end it. Good bye! See you next week! :)
Are our traits determined by our blood types?
Are our traits
determined by our blood types?
One day, A, B, O,
and AB are going to the beach. Who is the tardiest of them all? If you can answer
it, you must be believe in classification of properties based on blood types. Maybe
you all have read that A people are always on time, B is the opposite of A, O
like to acts whatever they want, and AB is strange. So, are our traits
determined by our blood types? Actually, it’s just a myth. But, if it’s just a
myth, why everyone people with the same blood type have the same traits? This
phenomenon can be described by the term confirmation-bias. That is, as human we
tend to like to find some info that can support our beliefs. It’s like when we
believed that the people with blood type A are very disciplined. We become
optimist with our friends who is blood type A and believe that they are really
discipline. Eventhough, it’s not 100% true.

Why do we have
different blood types?
How many blood types in the world? We may know that blood
types are divided into A, B, AB, and O. So, why do we have different blood
types? Although our blood’s color are same. Before the 20th century, people
thaught that that there’s no different between my blood and your blood. And
because of that, a lot of people died because they got wrong blood transfusion.
After that, a researcher named Karl Landsteiner found that human’s blood are
divided into A, B, and O. In general, we can have different blood types
because our body have something called “antigen”. Someone who has antigen A,
will have blood type A and so on. But, people who have antigen A and B will
have blood type AB. Our immune system then will read our antigen in our blood
cells. And if our immune system find something different from the else, they
will consider it as something dangerous that could harm our body. And so, they
will fight it. The reaction of resistance will cause blood clots and can killed
people.

blood’s flow smoothly. We can increase the production of red blood cells. From

Why we always have
room for dessert?
We just finished our meal and our tummy are full. And then,
when the cake arrives, suddenly our tummy still have room for one or two pieces
of cake. Why does that happen? According to school of thought, it all comes
down to something called Sensory-Specific Satiety (SSS). Sesory-Specific
Satiety refers to the idea that the more you eat one kind of food in a single
sitting, the less appealing that food becomes. So, actually we weren’t full. It
just our senses were bored. And so, when another meal come out, you probably
faced something different and you’re ready to eat again.

The relation between
drawing and memory
Have you ever forgotten your grocery list? Don’t worry, It’s
a natural thing that human’s do. A recent study by University of Waterloo,
discovered that putting things visually gives people more advantages of
recalling it better than writing it down. Even if you do it multiple times at
once. Drawing will just do, or even by putting doodles of details around the
written word will still be better than just mere letters.

Food Waste into an
Ice Cream?
A big scoop of ice
cream with streaks of sweet apple rum? Sounds delicious, right? But, what if
those flavours were 'secondhand'? An ice cream chain in Portland, Oregon called Salt
& Straw is featuring “rescued food” flavours in their June 2017 seasonal
menu in a small batch. This is done because wasting food is actually a huge
problem while plastic spread in our water and pollution in our air. A 2016
study in the journal found that we actually produce more than enough amount of
food to feed all the people in the world. And the problem is, a lot of people didn’t
finish their meal and throw their food so their food are being wasted. Kim Malek,
the founder of Salt & Straw, in it to “swipe out hunger”. While their ice
cream may only save around 2,000 pounds of food, her team hopes to create awareness
for local organizations that rescue and redistribute food to communities in

The benefits of
Japanese ‘Forest Bathing’
Sometimes, when we
feel really tired, too much pressure or stress, we will think that we need a
breath of fresh forest air. In Japan, there’s a practice of ‘Shinrin-yoku’ or ‘forest
bathing’. It’s not a type of bath that you can relax inside the tub and enjoy
the view of the forest. It’s more like having fun with nature. Besides,
shinrin-yoku has a lot of benefits. It has been scientifically proven to reduce
stress and strenghten your immune system. Also, with just 30 minutes of walking
in the forest can lower your blood pressure and cortisol levels. The aroma from
the trees in the forest can heal you from a variety of physical illness. There’s
a study says that the scent of the trees also can cure cancer.

WEEKLY REFLECTION #1
Holla! This is the
first reflection of the week after the midterm test. This week, I make some
posts random as usual. But, the topic is one. It’s “food”. Why did I choose
this topic? I love to read some articles related to food. I find it really
insteresting. Like, some new innovation of food, or the benefits of some
fruits, sometimes the recipes of some foods, and the others. It’s quite hard
actually to make those posts. I read the articles in Indonesian and then I will
translate it into English. It’s hard but it’s quite fun if I focused on it
(lol).
Why we shouldn’t eat raw meat instead of raw fish?
Why we shouldn’t eat
raw meat instead of raw fish?
We usually find raw
fish in Japanese dish like sashimi, sushi, and the other. But, why is it always
raw fish? Why we can’t use raw meat instead of raw fish? Actually, eating raw
meat is a terrible idea because the bacteria inside the raw meat, like beef or
pork are more dangerous than the bacteria in fish. It’s because of the cut, the
way it’s stored and the microbes and parasites that live in the animals. In
fact, raw fish can be infected by some parasistes too. But generally, if it’s
frozen or comes from a clean kitchen, it’s probably safe. On the other hands,
ground beef is a little more dangerous, because those surface germs can be
mixed inside.

The relation between
onions and tears
Have you ever cried while cut the onions? Why we always cry
whenever we cut the onions? Here is the explanation. The oil in the onions
contain a lot of sulfur substances. This substances evaporated very fast.
Therefore, when we cut the onions, the oil and the sulfur change into the gas
very quickly and if the gas hit your eyes, it will makes your eyes sore and
triggering your eyes. Then, what can we do to avoid being teary-eyed while we
cut the onions? Well, maybe some of you already know this tips. You can hold a
silver spoon in your mouth, hold a piece of bread in your mouth, cut the onion
underwater, or use a super sharp knife. This simple trick can help you so you
won’t be teared up.

Spaghetti donut, a
new innovation of pasta in a ring form
After burito burger
and croissant donuts, culinary world didn’t seems to run out of ideas for the
other innovation. It was proved by a store in Brooklyn that make a donut from a
