And it turns out that enough sleep can also make us more happy! Why is that, though? So, it turns out that when we don’t have enough sleep, it will make the body weak and tend to not get excited in starting the day. This can cause us to be moody, tired and lazy to move on that day. The less excited, the more mood unhappy. Conversely, if our sleeping needs are fulfilled in the day, our body and mind will be fresher as well, so we are ready and enthusiastic to go through the whole day.

Is steamed-egg better than boiled-egg?

Egg. This white-round-fluffy food is like a friend for our rice. Even if we just fried the egg or just boiled it, it still goes well with the rice. But, do you know if we need some skills to make our boiled-egg look perfect? If we boiled it too long, the egg will produce a greenish color near the yolk. And it can reduce the aesthetic of its egg. In the other hand, if we boiled it too fast, the skin of the egg will become hard to peel. That consideration is one of the reasons why you shouldn’t boil an egg. You can get the same taste by steam it. Moreover, it’s mentioned that steaming is better than boiling. The steaming process turns eggs with a softer texture. In addition, you do not have to bother setting the hot temperature in the pan and the length of time steaming.

The World wastes millions of tons of food

Much of the food that goes to waste around the world is discarded based on aesthetics, or othe factors that don’t relate to the food’s taste or quality. According to the food and agriculture organization of the U.S, if we managed to save just one-fourth of the food that typically goes to waste, it could feed 870 million hungry people. Some business have also taken it upon themselves to purchase and sell the foods that farmers and other business don’t want, but they constantly find themselves overwhelmed by the sheer amount of the “reject” food.

Why you always get sprayed when you try to peel citrus?

Have you ever noticed  that everytime you peel your citrus, you’ve got a spritz of acid in your eye? It’s hurt so much, right? And today, I will tell you why the spritz of citrus makes your eye hurt so much. So, every orange is pocked with oil-filled glands that explosively rupture when the peel is broken and the experimenters used engineering tools to measure exactly what the pressure states caused those glands to shoot their substance in a high-speed jet. Their findings, which were presented at the annual meeting of the society for integrative and comparative biology could inspire a new type of one-use asthma inhaler.

What is the best time to study?

One of the attempts to get a good score during a test is with study hard. But, sometimes eventhough we want to study as hard as possible, the timing is just wrong. Like when we go home directly after the class, we want to do our homework. And when we open the book, suddenly we are yawning and then we just sleep and we already forgot about our homework. So, have you ever wodered what is the best time for us to study? Actually, the best time is at 02.00-04.00 am. Because at this time, the absorption of learning materials can reach 90%-100%. The second is at the afternoon. It’s not an ideal time but it can be tolerable. The possibility of absorption of the subject matter is about 60%-70%. And the last is at 20.00-22.00 pm. Maybe it’s the least ideal hour. With the possibility of the absorption of the subject matter is just about 20%-30%, we will use the last energy that left behind from our body.

Weekly Reflection

Friday, April 28, 2017

Hello! So, this week I start to write a weekly reflection again. Last week, I didn't write anything for the 5th day of the week, Friday. I had a campus event(is it a campus event? Idk) called Training Kader and it was 3 days and 2 night. It was really tiring. It's like that I went to military academy (lol) but it's not bad. I love the last day. Because I can go home, yay! Eventhough I arrived at night, but it's still the happiest moment for the last 3 days. By the way, this week from wednesday until this day, I wrote something related with blood. I found that this topic is interesting. So I read and made the posts based on what I read. Okay, I think it's already long enough to end it. Good bye! See you next week! :)

Are our traits determined by our blood types?

Are our traits determined by our blood types?

One day, A, B, O, and AB are going to the beach. Who is the tardiest of them all? If you can answer it, you must be believe in classification of properties based on blood types. Maybe you all have read that A people are always on time, B is the opposite of A, O like to acts whatever they want, and AB is strange. So, are our traits determined by our blood types? Actually, it’s just a myth. But, if it’s just a myth, why everyone people with the same blood type have the same traits? This phenomenon can be described by the term confirmation-bias. That is, as human we tend to like to find some info that can support our beliefs. It’s like when we believed that the people with blood type A are very disciplined. We become optimist with our friends who is blood type A and believe that they are really discipline. Eventhough, it’s not 100% true.

Why do we have different blood types?

Why do we have different blood types?

How many blood types in the world? We may know that blood types are divided into A, B, AB, and O. So, why do we have different blood types? Although our blood’s color are same. Before the 20th century, people thaught that that there’s no different between my blood and your blood. And because of that, a lot of people died because they got wrong blood transfusion. After that, a researcher named Karl Landsteiner found that human’s blood are divided into A, B, and O. In general, we can have different blood types because our body have something called “antigen”. Someone who has antigen A, will have blood type A and so on. But, people who have antigen A and B will have blood type AB. Our immune system then will read our antigen in our blood cells. And if our immune system find something different from the else, they will consider it as something dangerous that could harm our body. And so, they will fight it. The reaction of resistance will cause blood clots and can killed people.

Why we always have room for dessert?

We just finished our meal and our tummy are full. And then, when the cake arrives, suddenly our tummy still have room for one or two pieces of cake. Why does that happen? According to school of thought, it all comes down to something called Sensory-Specific Satiety (SSS). Sesory-Specific Satiety refers to the idea that the more you eat one kind of food in a single sitting, the less appealing that food becomes. So, actually we weren’t full. It just our senses were bored. And so, when another meal come out, you probably faced something different and you’re ready to eat again.

WEEKLY REFLECTION #1

Holla! This is the first reflection of the week after the midterm test. This week, I make some posts random as usual. But, the topic is one. It’s “food”. Why did I choose this topic? I love to read some articles related to food. I find it really insteresting. Like, some new innovation of food, or the benefits of some fruits, sometimes the recipes of some foods, and the others. It’s quite hard actually to make those posts. I read the articles in Indonesian and then I will translate it into English. It’s hard but it’s quite fun if I focused on it (lol).

Why we shouldn’t eat raw meat instead of raw fish?

Why we shouldn’t eat raw meat instead of raw fish?

We usually find raw fish in Japanese dish like sashimi, sushi, and the other. But, why is it always raw fish? Why we can’t use raw meat instead of raw fish? Actually, eating raw meat is a terrible idea because the bacteria inside the raw meat, like beef or pork are more dangerous than the bacteria in fish. It’s because of the cut, the way it’s stored and the microbes and parasites that live in the animals. In fact, raw fish can be infected by some parasistes too. But generally, if it’s frozen or comes from a clean kitchen, it’s probably safe. On the other hands, ground beef is a little more dangerous, because those surface germs can be mixed inside.
